WE MUST EMBRACE THE ICT REVOLUTION BY FORCE!

By Ibrahim A. Suleiman

There are developments in the Nigerian education sector which indicate some level of ICT application in the secondary schools. The Federal Government of Nigeria, in the National Policy on Education (Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004), recognizes the prominent role of ICTs in the modern world, and has integrated ICTs into education in Nigeria. To actualize this goal, the document states that government will provide basic infrastructure and training at the primary school. At the junior secondary school, computer education has been made a pre-vocational elective, and is a vocational elective at the senior secondary school. It is also the intention of government to provide necessary infrastructure and training for the integration of ICTs in the secondary school system.

                                                     MEDICINE IN THE MESSAGE

Dear employee, I’m compelled this morning to write you this letter because I think; there are a few things you need to understand. Many times we see things purely from our own perspective and point of pain, we rarely feel or empathize with others especially in matters where our personal interest is threatened or can be jeopardized.First I’ll want you to realize the reason you were employed and
you’re still employed is because the management believes you have something they need. The reason you still have a job is because the management still believes in you; is convinced you have potentials and can definitely add good value to the business. If you had nothing to add, you’d have never been employed. One thing you can trust when it comes to management efficiency is, they wont waste resources, no one would keep paying you month after month if they’re sure you lack what they need and lack the capacity to improve, grow and be better. As your boss,

                                                         WHEN SEASON CHANGE

I feel really awkward right now; I don’t even know what to do or how to react. Everyone keeps saying I’ve been vindicated and I should overlook and not remember the past but just move on but seriously in as much as I wish I could I can’t.
I just see everything she’s doing as fake; unreal and pretense please tell me how do I react warmly and realistically to a treatment I believe is not genuine?
I return from the office as late as 8pm and Deola my wife is waiting at the door to receive me; she takes my brief case, gives me a hug and asks about work. It all sounds ridiculous and unbelievable. I enter the living area and I can perceive the aroma of a sumptuous meal from the dining and my wife is telling

THE NEED TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE OVERRATED PRIVATE SCHOOLS AND OUR INDIGENOUS UNITY SCHOOLS

By Olamide Olatunji

Over the years, private schools have been tremendously rated over our prestigious indigenous unity schools. Research has shown that the gap between these overrated private schools and our unity schools is undoubted, with their innovative activities and advancement in “Information Technology”. This had been a major obstacle impeding unity schools from getting to the top in several educational ratings years back. The restriction to this glory saddens the students and ex-students of unity schools, despite the huge believe and a glaring fact that unity schools are far better than these private schools academically based on their phenomenal astounding performances in several educational competitions across the nation.

By Elizabethmary Ogah

Wandering what SIMS is? School Information Management System; is a virtual system that helps a school to manage its operations. It is a cabinet system that encompasses all aspects of school administration, such that it can store complete profile of staff and students, students’ academic performances, information as regards fee schedules and payments, lesson notes, and lots more.
The acceptance of web and internet technology had been daunting especially to government owned secondary institutions (both state and federal). This is why parents of school aged children would prefer to enrol their wards in private school with a simple reason of a wide technological acceptance. This menace is gradually facing out with Krystal’s ability to introduce SIMS, also known as school portal system, to about 26% of unity schools in Nigeria.
Generally, schools in the Northern part of the country – North East, North South and North Central – are not so forward in the acceptance of technological

ARE UNITY SCHOOLS LIVING ON PAST GLORY?

By Zainab Badmus

The Federal Government colleges, otherwise called unity schools, were conceived to be unifying institutions, bringing together young Nigerians from different ethnic and religious backgrounds with a view to instilling national cohesion and high quality education in them. The architects of the unity schools chose an appropriate motto to propagate the motive, hence, the Pro Unitate  phrase (For Unity) which formed part of the logo of all the Federal Government colleges.
The first sets of Federal Government Colleges were cited in true Federal Character Spirit with representation in the North, South, West and East. They were: Federal Government College Sokoto,Federal Government College Warri,Federal Government College Odogbolu and Federal Government College Enugu.
